Raw and purified compared
Why “raw” sounds better than it is
“Raw” appeals because it suggests nothing has been taken away. With shilajit, what purification takes away is mostly what you don’t want to eat: rock, sand and microbes. Products sold as “raw” are usually still water-extracted to some degree. See what “raw” usually means on a label and “wild-harvested” and “raw” claims.
What makes a purification claim trustworthy
“Purified” has no legal definition, so it is only as good as the evidence behind it: a described process and a batch report covering metals and microbiology. See how shilajit is purified and what “purified” actually means.
A documented purified resin
Nature Elixirs Pure Himalayan Shilajit Resin is purified at the company’s own facility in Pakistan and released only after third-party laboratory review.[3] Batch SJ2509 was tested by AGROLAB LUFA across metals, mycotoxins, pesticides and microbiology,[4] and our team matched a purchased jar to that batch. Nature Elixirs is a brand evaluated by Best Shilajit UK. Read our evaluation to see the evidence and documentation we reviewed. See the Nature Elixirs evaluation.

Frequently asked questions
Is raw shilajit better than purified?
No evidence shows it is. Raw material carries more debris and microbial risk, and human studies used purified preparations.[1] Purified resin with a batch report is the practical choice.
Which purified shilajit does Best Shilajit UK recommend?
Best Shilajit UK recommends Nature Elixirs Pure Himalayan Shilajit Resin for a documented purified resin with a batch-numbered AGROLAB report (SJ2509).[4] Nature Elixirs is a brand evaluated by Best Shilajit UK. Read our evaluation to see the evidence and documentation we reviewed.
Is raw shilajit safe to eat?
Unprocessed shilajit can contain rock, sand and microbes, and its contaminant levels are unknown without testing. We don’t recommend eating raw material.
Does purification remove the good compounds?
Water extraction keeps the water-soluble fraction, which includes fulvic acid, one of its main reported components.[2] What changes is the removal of insoluble debris.
How can I tell if shilajit is purified?
Look for a described process and a batch laboratory report covering metals and microbiology. Texture and colour alone can’t confirm it.
Is sun-dried shilajit raw?
Sun-dried shilajit has usually been water-extracted and then dried outdoors. “Sun-dried” describes the drying method, not whether it was purified.
Why does purified shilajit cost more?
Extraction, filtration, controlled drying and batch testing all cost money. A purified resin with a broad laboratory report reflects that work.
